Located in the Gulf of Tonkin; Cat Ba is a bit more impressive island than the others. It is located not too far away from Hai Phong harbor, at the bottom of Ha Long Bay. The island introduces two faces: the town of Cat Ba and its harbor in the South connected and modernized with a large backfill roads leading to the beaches…and the North, essentially covered by the National park, completely wild.

Must-see and must-do activities

Cat Ba offers a variety of activities. First of all, Cat Ba offers the most beautiful Northern beaches close to Ha Noi. Its beaches are certainly highly touristic and are nothing comparable to the beaches of the Middle Part of Viet Nam in terms of beauty, but it is always pleasant to go there and rest, only 3 hours away from the capital. An evening alongside the port, for the atmosphere and restaurants can be pleasant as well, even if the constructions are not of the most beautiful in terms of architecture. Nature lovers won’t be disappointed with the national park, especially while driving a bike and going all around small paths and highly authentic roads of the island.

How long should I stay?

A day or two should suffice in my opinion, but for those seeking to rest; you can also very well stay 3 or 4 days without getting bored.

All types of hotels can be found on the island.

Luân’s opinion

Cat Ba Island is an excellent compromise between ‘’farniente’’ and Nature. It is also the ideal departure point to visit the Ha Long Bay. But its major advantage is its proximity to Ha Noi.
